Phoenix Sleeve
Rebirth, rendered feather by feather across a full arm.
Overview
Our client came in with a single image in mind — a phoenix mid-rise — and a decade of life they wanted to close the door on. Marcus composed the bird to wrap the arm so the wings open when the arm turns: shoulder as ignition, forearm as flight.
The approach
Four full-day sessions across three months. First the mapping and deep blacks, then layered grey wash for the feather volume, then a final contrast pass once early shading settled. The background smoke was kept soft so the bird carries all the weight.
- Full-wrap composition planned as one piece
- Layered wash shading for feather depth
- Healed check and contrast refinement included
StyleBlack & grey realism
PlacementFull sleeve, shoulder to wrist
